The University of Kentucky (UK) is the flagship institution of higher education for the Commonwealth of Kentucky. 30,900 students are enrolled at the University (including Lexington Community College), and in this year's freshman class, there were 65 National Merit Scholars, 119 Kentucky Governor's Scholars and 106 high school valedictorians.
UK offers 98 certified degree programs that lead to bachelor's degrees, master's degrees in 96 fields, and Ph.D.s and other doctoral degrees in 62 programs.

The UK Chandler Medical Center is nationally recognized as a leader in education, research and patient care. Of the Medical Center's components, the largest is the UK Hospital, which provides health care to residents of all 120 Kentucky counties, other states and foreign countries.
This comprehensive care center also includes an Aeromedical Service which transports over 1,000 patients to the UK Hospital each year, and a neonatal emergency transport ambulance for critically ill infants. For more information, call (859) 323-6363.
Transylvania University, located in Lexington, is an independent liberal arts college founding in 1780 (making it the 16th oldest college in the United States). Enrollment is approximately 1,000 students and there are 90 faculty members. 23 majors are offered.
