Shillito Park, located on Reynolds Road, covers 105 acres and contains three softball fields, two baseball fields, three soccer fields, thirteen tennis courts, two football fields, a 50-meter swimming pool, and a fitness trail called "Parcours." Shillito Park offers visitors picnic shelters, which can be reserved, with picnic tables and grills.

Jacobson Park, located off Richmond Road, is ideal for individuals who enjoy open spaces. Its 216 acres include a stocked lake (fishing license required). Pedalboats are available for rental at the boatdock. Picnic shelters, some of which have no electricity, may be reserved by calling 288-2900.

Veteran's Park at Hickman Creek contains 200-acres with spectacular vistas of hillsides, woods, meandering streams and spacious meadows. Located just south of Man o'War Boulevard on Tates Creek Road, the park is named for "the men and women who have worn the uniform of their country, and is dedicated to those brave souls who have fought to defend the cause of freedom for all Americans in every war and every conflict." The park features a recreation area consisting of bicycle and jogging trails, picnic shelters, ball diamonds, tennis and basketball courts, concession and restroom areas and playgrounds.

Masterson Station Park, covering 732 acres, is located off Leestown Road and is the site for comprehensive equestrian programs. Professionally-trained personnel conduct clinics, lectures, and give horseback riding lessons to all ages. Picnic areas are also located on the park grounds. Dogs may run in designated areas.

Raven Run Nature Sanctuary, is a unique 274-acre tract dedicated to the preservation of the Kentucky River Palisades' natural beauty. It's seven-mile network of hiking trails provides access to the streams, meadows and woodlands characterizing this area. More than 400 species of wildflowers and numerous remnants of the early settlers allows visitors a chance to become acquainted with and appreciate the Lexington area's natural heritage. The sanctuary is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday all year. Hours vary according to the season. Before planning a visit, particularly on weekends, please call in advance to insure Raven Run is open for more information, call 272-6105.

The Kentucky Horse Park, has over 1,000 rolling acres of bluegrass surrounding the Park's Activities Center, shops and barns. Visitors can enjoy walking tours through the blacksmith's shop, the harnessmaker's or one of the many barns where various breeds of horses are on display. Horseback riding, dining in the restaurant or a visit to the International Museum of the Horse round out a day's adventure here.

After a busy day, campers can relax at one of 260 campsites. The spacious campgrounds at the Horse Park are equipped with electricity and water, a junior-size Olympic pool, tennis courts, RV waste dumping, grocery and Laundromat. For information, call 233-4303.
